Previous internships

Arielle Erenrich (class ’15)

• Editorial Intern at Dressage Today (summer 2013). Arielle put together the monthly Emporium section, researched, and wrote original articles.
• Community Outreach Intern at Montgomery County Department of Transportation (Summer and Winter 2012-2013). Arielle created and implemented a county-wide Adopt-A-Road survey, created a blog for the Pedestrian Safety Initiative, and wrote short educational articles about walking and bicycling safety.

Daniel Roeder (class ’15)

• Young Playwrights Festival Evaluator at Centerstage Baltimore (Spring 2012) — Read and assessed over 50 scripts from K-12 playwrights for inclusion in a festival.
• Literary Intern, York Theatre Company (NYC)  (Summer 2011) — Reviewed submissions of original musicals for possibility of production by the company; assisted in Box Office, helped prepare for special events.

Yoo-Jin Kang (class ’15)

• Trust for America’s Health, a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to saving lives by protecting the health of every community and working to make disease prevention a national priority (Summer 14). Yoo-Jin worked on initiatives related to injury and violence prevention as related to her academic interests and studies.
• Legal intern at the Esperanza Center in Baltimore (Winter 2014 – Spring 2014). Yoo-Jin helped organize client files and legal paperwork specific to Violence against women cases, interviewed a client for a declaration statement, made phone calls (many in spanish) and helped with legal paperwork.
• Domestic Violence Center of Howard County (HopeWorks) (Winter 2012 – Spring 2013). Yoo-Jin served as a youth mentor for the Youth Empowerment group, led a workshop based on the principles of Green Dot, a bystander prevention program.

Tyler McCafferty (class ’15)

• Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks (Fall 14). Tyler is working as a Park Lake Restoration Intern where she has been tasked with formulating and implementing a plan to stabilize and restore the Patterson Park Boat Lake in Baltimore City by managing invasive species and improving water quality.
• Chesapeake Stormwater Network, a nonprofit founded to disseminate information about Low Impact Development and Best Management Practices to stormwater practitioners and local government officials (Spring 14 – present). In her role as Communications Intern, Tyler has conducted public outreach, designed and analyzed a network-wide survey, and assisted in the writing of a final grant report that was sent to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
• Baltimore County’s Bureau of Solid Waste Management (Fall 13). As a Recycling Division Intern, Tyler developed a video scholarship competition and wrote articles for the Baltimore County blog to promote recycling.

Matt Poissant (class ’15)

• Student Teaching Intern at Digital Harbor High School in Baltimore City (Fall 14). Working with a mentor teacher to teach World History to juniors.
• Intern for the SUCCESS Program at UMBC. Teaching a class to the freshman SUCCESS students call “Campus Exploration” where I am helping them to discover all the facilities and resources available to them on campus as well as the many ways in which they can involve themselves on campus.

Jessica Martin (class ’15)

• Perkiomen School of Pennsburg PA’s English as a Second Language Summer Immersion Program (together with Matt Poissant). She was charged with taking groups of students from China, South Korea, Germany, and Russia and immersing them in the American lifestyle. She also taught them leadership classes and monitor their English use.
• Department of State, Eurasian Affairs Bureau.  Worked at the US Embassy in Bucharest Romania doing a real estate cataloguing project and assisting with the yearly 4th of July party.  Worked with Ambassadors and Romanian Citizens alike to promote the English Language education in intercity youth.
